Meet Our Therapist

Hi my name is Jake Smith and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. That is what I do, but it's only part of the story. I grew up in Utah and I have spent the majority of my life there except for about 7 years when I was attending school. I am married and a father to 4 beautiful women. My journey began at Idaho State University where I graduated with a degree in physical education. I then left for the University of New Mexico and graduated with a masters degree in Sports administration. I love sports and swam on my schools swim team in high school. I thought I was going to work with a professional sports team or college athletic department. When that didn't pan out I started working in another job teaching people good work behaviors and helping them overcome barriers to employment. I earned a masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. I became a licensed Vocational Rehabilitation  Councilor. I would participate mostly in crisis intervention counseling. About 8 years ago I started to devote a lot of my time to Suicide Prevention. Teaching Individuals skills to intervene in a crisis situation. About 2 years ago, I finished classes and became a licensed mental health counselor. I provide therapy services for adolescents, adults, and couples. I am a trauma informed therapists. I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), knowledgeable in Internal Family Systems (IFS), and in March will be certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). For Couples therapy, I generally have two focuses, Gottman method, and/or Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT). I am always looking for ways to improve and become the best therapist for you that I can become. 

When I am not providing therapy I enjoy spending time with my wife, spending time with my kids, exercising, watching sports both in person and on tv, reading, writing, and finding other ways to relax.
